"Fretting Lettie" by Pansy follows the story of Lettie Edmonds, a young girl who feels overwhelmed by her responsibilities in a large family. Lettie is often irritable and discontented, feeling burdened by household chores and the demands of her siblings. Her cousin, Miss Patty, proposes a solution to Lettie's mother: Lettie should live with her in the city, away from the chaos of family life. Initially, Lettie enjoys the freedom and leisure of her new environment, but soon grows lonely and bored without the company and activity of her family. Realizing the value of her family, Lettie attempts to return home on her own, only to be intercepted by Miss Patty's arrangements. Upon her return, Lettie appreciates her family more deeply and resolves to be less fretful, understanding that the love and liveliness of her home are irreplaceable. Miss Patty's plan succeeds in teaching Lettie the importance of family and the joy found in shared responsibilities and relationships.
