Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894) was a Scottish novelist, poet, and travel writer. He is best known for his novels Treasure Island, Kidnapped, and Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Stevenson was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and educated at Edinburgh University. He began writing poetry and short stories in his teens, and his first novel, Treasure Island, was published in 1883. He wrote several other novels, including Kidnapped (1886) and The Master of Ballantrae (1889). Stevenson also wrote several travel books, including An Inland Voyage (1878) and Travels with a Donkey in the Cévennes (1879). He also wrote essays, plays, and short stories. Stevenson was a popular author in his lifetime, and his works remain popular today. He died in Samoa in 1894.
