Samuel Butler

Samuel Butler (1835–1902) was an English novelist, essayist, and critic. He is best known for his satirical novel "Erewhon" and the posthumously published "The Way of All Flesh." Butler was critical of Victorian society and religion, often exploring themes of evolution and human behavior. He also wrote on topics such as art, music, and literature, and was an early critic of Charles Darwin's theories.
