Don't be upset. They only permit me one day of freedom every year.
Now I must return. But I don't want to leave, my friend, without telling you a few things. Ideas are attributed to me. The eternal return: I am the proof of my words. I didn't return. You came and believed that I was returning. That doesn't matter. Another one: the will to power. My sister Elisabeth distorted it. I was not anti-Semitic or fascist or nationalist. What was I? You tell me. A man of faith. Of a dangerous faith, misinterpreted because it looked toward the future. Though it's very difficult to understand my idea of the superman, it's easy to distort it. My superman knows he has to do what will inevitably happen. And knowing that gives him joy and gives him beatitude. God is dead. What do I mean? That we shouldn't have faith out of atavism. We need faith. We require mystery. Not political ideology. Check and you'll see. Twelve, twenty years. A totalitarian idea doesn't last longer than that. And democracy? Well, it lasts because it sanctifies itself while being secular, do you understand? Democracy persists because it wears the halo of religion and it is this, faith, which lasts. Faith in Christ, who was the only Christian. Faith in the Church? That's where I wanted to break the lie and propose a time without a church, without progress, without secular or sacred idols. To begin in order to recover, do you understand?
