After the Storm is a novel by Ernest Hemingway, first published in 1926. It follows the story of a young American soldier, Robert, who returns home from World War I to find his family and his hometown in disarray. He is forced to confront the harsh realities of life in a small town, and the struggles of his family, as they try to make ends meet. Robert's father is an alcoholic, his mother is struggling to keep the family together, and his sister is pregnant and unmarried. In the end, Robert is able to find peace and acceptance, and a new understanding of life.
