Born in 1877 in Atlanta, Georgia, she was a poet and playwright who became one of the first African American women to publish her work. She wrote over 500 poems and several plays, often exploring themes of love, family, and social justice. Her poetry collection "An Autumn Love Cycle" was published in 1918.
