A Cathedral Courtship

In Kate Douglas Wiggin's novel, A Cathedral Courtship, the story follows the lives of two young people, John Storm and Mary Endicott, who are both from the small town of Cathedral, Maine. John is a young man who has recently returned from college and is determined to make something of himself. Mary is a young woman who is trying to find her place in the world and is determined to make something of herself as well. John and Mary meet at a church service and quickly become friends. As their friendship grows, they both realize that they have feelings for each other. However, they are both hesitant to act on their feelings due to their different backgrounds and the fact that they come from different social classes. John and Mary must overcome their differences and the obstacles that stand in their way if they are to have a chance at a future together. Along the way, they must learn to trust each other and to open up to one another. In the end, they must decide if their love is strong enough to overcome all of the obstacles that stand in their way.
