Ellis Parker Butler (1869-1937) was an American author and humorist. He was born in Muscatine, Iowa, and began writing stories for magazines while still in high school. He went on to become one of the most popular humorists of the early 20th century, writing over 100 books and hundreds of short stories. His most famous works include Pigs Is Pigs (1904), The Great American Pie Company (1909), and The Great American Fraud (1911). He was also a prolific playwright, writing over 30 plays, many of which were adapted for the stage and screen. He was a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the National Institute of Arts and Letters. He died in 1937 in New York City.
