Fifty Grand by Ernest Hemingway

Fifty Grand is a short story by Ernest Hemingway, first published in 1927. It tells the story of Jack Brennan, a professional boxer who is preparing for an upcoming fight. He is confident in his ability to win, but his trainer, Mike, is worried that Jack's opponent, Jimmy Walcott, is too strong. Jack and Mike go to the fight, and Jack is able to win the fight by a knockout in the first round. After the fight, Jack and Mike go out to celebrate, and Jack is offered a large sum of money to throw the next fight. Jack refuses, and Mike is proud of him for doing so. The story ends with Jack and Mike walking away from the fight, and Jack reflecting on the fact that he has just earned fifty grand.
