In Another Country is a short story by Ernest Hemingway, first published in 1926. It follows an unnamed American soldier in Italy during World War I, who is recovering from a leg injury. He visits a hospital in Milan, where he meets a group of Italian officers who are also recovering from injuries. Through conversations with the officers, the soldier learns about the different ways in which they view life and death, and how they cope with the physical and emotional pain of war. The story is a meditation on the human experience of war, and the ways in which people can find solace in the midst of suffering.
