Noel Loomis (1905–1969) was an American author best known for his Western fiction, though he also wrote science fiction and historical fiction. Born on 3 April 1905 in Wakita, Oklahoma, he grew up in the American Southwest, a landscape that heavily influenced his writing. He worked as a journalist, editor, and newspaperman for much of his career, and wrote prolifically for the pulp magazines from the 1930s through the 1950s, contributing science fiction stories as well as Westerns. He published numerous Western novels well regarded for their historical authenticity, among them Rim of the Caprock, Trouble on Crazyman Creek, West to the Sun, and Bowie's Mine. A member of the Western Writers of America, Loomis was known for meticulous historical research and respected among his peers for his authentic portrayal of frontier life. He is remembered as a solid and reliable contributor to the golden age of Western fiction. He died on 6 October 1969.
