Robert Hichens (1864–1950) was an English novelist and playwright. He was born in London and educated at King's College School. He began writing at an early age, and his first novel, The Green Carnation, was published in 1894. He went on to write a number of successful novels, including The Paradine Case (1927), The Garden of Allah (1904), and The Slave (1912). He also wrote several plays, including The New Word (1909) and The Return of the Prodigal (1917). He was a prolific writer, and his works were translated into many languages. He was also a popular lecturer and public speaker.
