Roswitha of Gandersheim, also known as Hrotsvitha, was a 10th-century German canoness, dramatist, and poet. She lived at the Abbey of Gandersheim in Saxony. Roswitha is recognized as the first known female playwright in the Western world. Her works, written in Latin, include plays, legends, and epics, often focusing on Christian themes and morality.
