Dinah Mulock

Dinah Mulock Craik (20 April 1826 – 12 October 1887) was an English novelist and poet. She was born in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, the daughter of a Unitarian minister. She was educated at home and in 1845 published her first book of poems. She wrote over 50 books, including novels, poetry, and children's stories. Her best-known works include John Halifax, Gentleman (1856) and A Life for a Life (1859). She was a friend of Charles Dickens and a contributor to the magazine Household Words. She died in London in 1887.
