G.K. Chesterton

Gilbert Keith Chesterton (1874-1936) was an English writer, poet, philosopher, and theologian. He is best known for his detective fiction featuring the character Father Brown, as well as his book Orthodoxy. He wrote over 80 books, hundreds of poems, and several plays. He was a major influence on C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, and other authors of the 20th century. Chesterton was a prolific journalist, writing thousands of essays and editorials for newspapers and magazines. He was a strong advocate of Distributism, a social and economic philosophy that emphasizes the importance of small businesses and local ownership. He was also a passionate defender of the Catholic Church and its teachings.
