Uncle Wiggily and the Little Pond

Uncle Wiggily Longears, a bunny rabbit gentleman, embarks on a journey through Woodland near the Orange Ice Mountains. He is searching for Baby Bunty, a lively little rabbit girl, to bring her home for supper as requested by Nurse Jane. Along the way, Uncle Wiggily encounters Johnnie Bushytail, a squirrel boy, and explains his mission. As he continues his search, he arrives at a large pond surrounded by tall plants. These plants are troubled by red, biting bugs, and Uncle Wiggily offers to help by using his rheumatism crutch to drive the bugs away. Grateful, the plants promise to return the favor if needed. Uncle Wiggily eventually finds Baby Bunty asleep in a shady dell, holding her doll. He wakes her, and they begin their journey back home. However, they are suddenly confronted by the Skuddlemagoon, a menacing creature. In their attempt to escape, they reach the large pond. Uncle Wiggily wishes the pond were smaller so they could jump across to safety, as the policeman dog lives on the other side. Miraculously, the pond begins to shrink, allowing Uncle Wiggily and Baby Bunty to jump across. Once they are safe on the other side, the pond expands again, preventing the Skuddlemagoon from following. The plants reveal that they are rubber plants capable of stretching and shrinking, and they had altered the pond's size to help Uncle Wiggily and Baby Bunty. The story concludes with the characters safe and the plants having fulfilled their promise to assist in return for Uncle Wiggily's earlier kindness.
