Mr Standfast by John Buchan (1915)
John Standfast is a British secret agent during World War I. He is sent to Switzerland to investigate a German spy ring. He soon discovers that the ring is led by a mysterious figure known as the Baron. Standfast must use all his wits and courage to outwit the Baron and his agents and prevent them from carrying out their plans. Along the way, he meets a beautiful young woman, Edith, who helps him in his mission. Together, they must battle the Baron and his minions in a thrilling race against time. In the end, Standfast must make a daring escape from the Baron's clutches and save the day.
