Rainer Maria Rilke was an Austrian poet and novelist born on December 4, 1875, in Prague, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. He is best known for his contributions to German literature, particularly his "Duino Elegies" and "Sonnets to Orpheus." Rilke's work is characterized by its exploration of existential themes, spirituality, and the human condition. He spent much of his life traveling across Europe, which influenced his writing.
