A law student in 1798, while returning to his family estate, finds shelter at a secluded monastery in a dark, stormy forest. There he is welcomed by the scholarly abbot, who introduces him to a vast library filled with rare and ancient texts. Among the treasures is a secret compartment containing a forbidden manuscript written in archaic French. This cursed document recounts the tragic tale of a noble knight who, after encountering a blasphemous satyr in the woods, is lured to the ruins of a derelict château. There, the knight discovers a hidden mechanism beneath a triangular flagstone that grants access to subterranean vaults. Driven by an insatiable curiosity, the student defies the abbot’s warnings and sets out to explore these mysterious ruins. His descent into the dark vaulted passages mirrors the knight’s fate and leads him into a labyrinthine series of caverns. Unexpectedly, he emerges into an otherworldly landscape bathed in a light that defies the familiar autumnal setting he had known—a place reminiscent of a Grecian idyll with soft meadows, a glistening river, and a distant marble acropolis. In this enchanted realm he encounters a woman of supernatural beauty who claims to have awaited his arrival. She seduces him with a passionate allure and promises eternal union, yet her presence exudes both irresistible charm and an undeniable menace. Soon the abbot reappears with holy water, revealing that the beguiling woman is no mere mortal, but a lamia—an ancient vampiric entity destined to devastate those who succumb to her spell. The abbot explains that this deception is not new; previous souls, including even a former abbot, had fallen victim to her seduction in the secret vaults beneath the ruins. As the vision shatters under the power of sacred water, the student loses consciousness and awakens back in the monastery, his experience reduced to a haunting, fragmentary memory. Despite his rescue, the encounter leaves him consumed by a lingering obsession for the enigmatic woman and the dark mystery of the cursed manuscript. He records his account upon returning home, determined to revisit the ruins and uncover the full extent of the supernatural forces that have forever altered his fate.
