Robert Silverberg is an American author and editor, best known for his science fiction and fantasy stories. He has written over 100 novels and short stories, and has won five Nebula Awards and four Hugo Awards. Silverberg was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1935. He began writing science fiction in the 1950s, and his first published story appeared in 1954. He quickly became a prolific writer, and his work appeared in many of the leading science fiction magazines of the time, including Galaxy, If, and The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction. Silverberg's first novel, Revolt on Alpha C, was published in 1955. He went on to write many more science fiction and fantasy novels, including the popular Majipoor series. Silverberg has also edited numerous anthologies, including the acclaimed New Dimensions series. He has been a member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America since 1959, and was inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame in 1999.
