Juan Rulfo (1917-1986) was a Mexican writer and journalist, best known for his novel "Pedro Páramo". Born in the state of Jalisco, Mexico, Rulfo studied philosophy and literature at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. He began his writing career as a journalist, working for several newspapers and magazines before turning to fiction. "Pedro Páramo", published in 1955, is considered one of the most important works of Mexican literature and has been translated into numerous languages. Rulfo's writing style is characterized by simplicity, clarity, and a focus on the human condition. He was awarded the Xavier Villaurrutia Award in 1956 for "Pedro Páramo" and the Cervantes Prize in 1984.
