Maria White Lowell (1821–1853) was an American poet, and the first wife of the poet and critic James Russell Lowell. She was known for her abolitionist convictions, and published relatively little during her short life. Her poems — among them The Alpine Sheep, The Maiden's Harvest, Song, Africa, and Jesus and the Dove — circulated during her lifetime and were gathered after her early death at the age of thirty-two.
