Sabine Baring-Gould (1834-1924) was an English author, hymn writer, antiquarian, and parson. He was born in Exeter, Devon, and educated at Clare College, Cambridge. He wrote over 800 hymns, including the popular "Onward, Christian Soldiers" and "Now the Day Is Over." He also wrote more than 100 books, including the novel "Mehalah" and the non-fiction work "Curious Myths of the Middle Ages." He was a prolific writer and a passionate antiquarian, and his works are still widely read today.
