Robert W. Service

Robert W. Service was a British-Canadian poet and writer, born on January 16, 1874, in Preston, England. He is best known for his poems about the Yukon and the Canadian North, earning him the nickname "the Bard of the Yukon." Service moved to Canada in 1894 and worked various jobs before joining the Canadian Bank of Commerce, which took him to the Yukon. His most famous works include "The Cremation of Sam McGee" and "The Shooting of Dan McGrew," both published in "Songs of a Sourdough" (1907). He later moved to Europe, where he continued to write poetry and novels. Service died on September 11, 1958, in Lancieux, France.
